Based in Vientiane, Lao PDR, LTPHI focuses on major health issues affecting Lao PDR, including social health protection, and are one of the key institutions engaged in public health. Together with other organisations, such as medical service providers and national laboratories, LTPHI plays a crucial role in assisting the Government of Laos to design and deliver long-term, sustainable improvements to the health of the population.

Lao TPHI is responsible for the analysis and evaluation of population health, health and disease surveillance, monitoring of emerging threats to public health, and promotion of coverage and access to health services.

Since joining CONNECT, the institute has already actively participated in activities identified in the 2022 work plan and Dr. Manithong Vonglokham, from the Department of Health System and Health Policy Research of LTPHI, was one of the CONNECT expert lecturers on the 2022 edition of the e-course on Social Health Protection: Addressing Inequities in access to Health Care, developed by the training centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO) in collaboration with CONNECT and the P4H network, and shared the country’s experience of extending social health protection to the informal economy.

Moreover, as part of CONNECT’s efforts to facilitate the participation of policy makers and officials working in the field of social health protection, in short- and long-term training opportunities, one LTPHI official was selected as the recipient of a fully funded CONNECT scholarship to participate in the e-course.
